Like many others have said on here. I too thought I was the only person that experienced the Hat Man. I began seeing the Hat man in my teenage years when my family added a new room onto the house. I moved my room in there and it began shortly after. He would walk by the door and I would see his silhouette as he passed by. Sometimes stopping to glance in the room, and sometimes he’d walk right by. I might see him a few times a month, always at night.
After a while he began to not just pass by the room, but by leaning his head into the room to look at me. I could see red eyes but no real facial features. Just the black hat, red eyes, and a void where the face should be. This went on through most of my high school years and on very few occasions he did come in the room and look around. I of course was horrified every time but he never seemed to come near me. Just looked from a distance. I joined the Navy and never saw him again, always thinking it was some strange thing that I imagined.
Fast forward some 20 years later and my sister and I began to talk over about our old house we grew up in. She told me about one time she saw a man in a black hat. At the time she was sleeping in the same room I had been in when I was young. She saw him once in the hallway and then he went away, but later that night she woke up and he was hovering above her and screamed at her. Then he disappeared.
I instantly got chills the minute she mentioned the Hat man. The reason my sister was sleeping in that room was because I was home with my fiancé and we were sleeping in her room because it had a larger bed. My theory is he knew I was home and expected me there and was angry when he found out it was my sister.
Neither of us have seen him since or been back to the old childhood home.
